In 1954 the United States Supreme Court ruled that, as Chief Justice Earl Warren said for the majority, “separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.”
This was but a couple of blocks from where an all-black high school had outperformed two-thirds of Washington D.C.’s white high schools on the same test back in 1899. Segregation may have been inherently wrong, but the cure — bussing to achieve “equality” — has been worse. Thank liberal/progressive Democrats and big government.
Democrats tout that it is they we should thank for establishing a federal minimum wage, and for regularly continuing to increase it. Democrats think you’re stupid.
An employer considers the value of what one can produce to determine how much to be willing to pay.
Given the abysmal and rotten government-operated school system, with blacks getting the by-far-shortest end of the stick, there are more black than white drop-outs and black proficiency levels in the aggregate in both reading and math are far lower. Blacks on average “graduate” with 8th grade reading proficiency and 5th grade math.
As the minimum wage is increased — allegedly raising the standard of living for “the poor” — young blacks become
excluded from the workforce because, until they develop job skills, they cannot produce more than $7.25 per hour in value to an employer. Thank liberal/progressive Democrats and big government.
There is so much that so many just know for sure to be true that just ain’t so.

This series is intended to dispense and disperse information. I grant to anyone and everyone right to republish without attribution anything and everything herein.
There is no such thing as ‘equality’ because people are very different in terms of various attributes such as cognitive skills. The notion of ‘equality’ thus enables the left to force wealth transfers upon those successful citizens in order to achieve this impossible balance. This is a clever political ploy that enables bigger and bigger government and higher and higher taxes as there is no way to get to an endpoint.
The Futile Attempt of Forcing Equality Among the Masses.
http://ryckki.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-futile-attempt-of-forcing-equality.html
“Cognitive equality is an oxymoron. There is no way you can give standardized tests and ensure that everybody gets the average test grade with nobody getting a higher or a lower test result. The much maligned Bell Curve , sometimes accused of actually causing the ‘problem’ of cognitive mal-distribution in the US, actually states the blunt facts about our societies and the distribution of mental skills. This salient fact that half the people who take the standardized test will score below the median is the rallying point for ‘change’ in ‘education.’ That is not fair. Society must be equalized. Thus propaganda must replace education. The Bell Curve correctly predicts who will pass high school, college and who will excel in the work place—and who will not—on a group basis. This fact commits millions to menial jobs but is casus belli for the political left. :”

First, by natural law all human beings come to Planet Earth “equal”, i.e., each sovereign, each with the same unalienable rights, and each human, as opposed to, say, horse or pig or broccoli. Further, each human being comes unique, as with snowflakes.
The Justices in Brown were talking “equal” in the above sense, thus correctly, and thus with each American worthy of equal protection under the law vis-a-vis unalienable rights.
Anyone, whether in 1954 or today, who expects or demands equality of outcomes among people is a progressive/liberal, and, thus, by definition, suffers an almost-always-incurable mental disorder.
Equality defined by the Warren Court has little to do with competing for jobs in the workplace and migrating from whatever your starting class may be up to the upper middle classes or higher or keeping your residence in your higher class if you lack the cognitive skills.
Indeed, the argument by the left now transcends the spectrum of the activist rulings in Brown that equality is equality in income. That is a very different situation and one that the progressives will handle with legislation, as usual, by job salary quotas , like the ‘livable wage’ mantra that may be higher than the worker’s skill base and output would indicate.
“… who expects or demands equality of outcomes among people is a progressive/liberal, and, thus, by definition, suffers an almost-always-incurable mental disorder.”
This is true, but the fact remains that in the tradition of the social contract the progressives will attempt to hike wages so as to come closer to meeting their dream of their self-defined ‘equality.’ That can only come from wealth transfers via taxes or worse.
That will come out of your pocket and given the mathematics of groups here that will lower the standard o living of all Americans. There is not enough money to go around and will be even less if we put incompetents into jobs of power and authority. Prices go up when business efficiency suffers.

Equality, ryckki, wasn’t “defined by the Warren Court”; it was properly UNDERSTOOD by the Warren Court. It “has little to do with competing for jobs in the workplace and migrating from whatever your starting class may be up to the upper middle classes or higher or keeping your residence in your higher class if you lack the cognitive skills.” It also has NOTHING to do with the price of commodities or whether the moon was full last night.
“Indeed, the argument by the left now transcends the spectrum of the activist rulings in Brown that equality is equality in income.” The subject of income never came up in Brown.
Etc.
The nostrum of ‘equality’, however defined by Warren or other droolers, has little to do with success in the workplace. Only abut 80% of our population, at best, can even hold down the most menial jobs in the capitalist system and few can rise to the top 1%. Nobody in government can get to the top 1% unless they are crooks. So, that leaves 20% out and in need of government subsidies of all sorts paid for by the rest of us. That is only paid for by debt as we speak at 40% deficit spending, which is terminal in the long run.
Since we are not going to achieve equality using outcome as a metric and many want better jobs than they have now, and have the skills to move up, then we have the obvious solution as we saw in Europe for that last 400 years: migration out to better places. Asia has a lot to offer in terms of friendly governments [Burma!, Laos!] with low taxes, some generous land and regulation concessions and more.
“[S]eparate educational facilities are inherently unequal” was and is an obvious truism.”
…is false. This is a political statement devoid of any data. This is Star Chamber effluvium.
The differences that highlight the inequality are based on the differential cognitive skills of the students among the several schools. With approximately equal funding per student and equivalent parental income, we find that schools that are approximately half white and half black do NOT have equal standardized test score averages for students when sorted by race. The blacks always come out with lower averages on standardized tests. We have to understand that the magnet and other schools cannot solicit students and are watched carefully by leftists who feel they are being slighted because they cannot control education precisely. Thus, in Maryland the system is closely watched. Those schools sometimes outperform the public school because of other reasons as they cannot test for students but parents and the location of the school frequently force a selection process that attracts those with higher cognitive skills than blacks. Many parents realize that the public schools stink and want more for their offspring than the local political parasites are offering. Other parents are satisfied if their offspring get to play sports and get good grades no matter how they perform on tests. Many parents could identify or realize a good education in the first place.
In my state they published the test scores for every class in the state from class averages from Grade 1 to HS and in the last 5 years no class has seen a black average higher than the whites. This is across the state. Asians, however, and Jews if they are counted repeatedly, almost always outscore whites and certainly blacks with IQ averages of 101-102 while whites have 100 and most blacks are 85 with Hispanics mixed around those levels. This is observed in every one of the 22,000 school districts across the nation and I have never seen an example of the opposite result. Should such a case be found, it would be trumpeted as another astounding and stupefying example of liberal intellectual forces and the obvious benefits of a leftist education .
Thus, the ‘inequality’ in test scores, IQ, SAT scores and such becomes the driving force for government subsidies of those who score lower and who will vote for the Democratic Party without thinking. So, we get Head Start, Jobs Corps, remedial arithmetic at Columbia, phony GED mills, student loans that ignore cognitive levels, stupid educational plans, dumbing-down curricula [http://www.deliberatedumbingdown.com/] and the graduation of incompetents. But, now that is a good monetary outcome as the government will willingly hire students with bad grades and worse and give them jobs in ‘education’ or some other phony work.
So, the government does actually provide a solution to ‘inequality’ of incomes for a few of their finest voters by pushing the costs into long-term debt. With higher taxes they could produce even more marvelous equality.
The term equality is a rubber word with no defined meaning [expect emotional self-generated definitions] and be filed in the circular file along with words like justice and freedom.
It stands as a gleaming testament to the manifold ignorance of the populace that such tacky wordsmith games can produce results.
Here is the way the NYT mumbles around the problem:
AFRICAN AMERICANS currently score lower than European Americans on vocabulary, reading, and mathematics tests, as well as on tests that claim to measure scholastic aptitude and intelligence. This gap appears before children enter kindergarten (figure 1-1), and it persists into adulthood. It has narrowed since 1970, but the typical American black still scores below 75 percent of American whites on most standardized tests. On some tests the typical American black scores below more than 85 percent of whites?
The black-white test score gap does not appear to be an inevitable fact of nature. It is true that the gap shrinks only a little when black and white children attend the same schools. It is also true that the gap shrinks only a little when black and white families have the same amount of schooling, the same income, and the same wealth. But despite endless speculation, no one has found genetic evidence indicating that blacks have less innate intellectual ability than whites. Thus while it is clear that eliminating the test score gap would require enormous effort by both blacks and whites and would probably take more than one generation, we believe it can be done.
http://www.nytimes.com/books/first/j/jencks-gap.html
“… no one has found genetic evidence indicating that blacks have less innate intellectual ability than whites.” True, in fact. So, what do the test scores tell us in terms of equality???
I must assume, ryckki, that you had a lungfull of air combined with a rampant addiction to spewing. Wherever you happen upon — accidentally or randomly — the topic at hand, you’re wrong, slap-the-forehead wrong. The rest in a seemingly-never-gonna-end rant is just the same-old-one-trick-pony-been-there-read-that so what!
I was about to say that Democrats should refer to themselves as the party of unintended consequences, but it occurred to me that they really are the party who are unconcerned about the consequences.
It was never necessary to bus children around in order to meet the legal requirement of de-segregation. Bussing was a way for liberals to prove to us how non-racist they were. It was all about them, as it always is. That’s why they are always unaffected by the unintended consequences. Same is true for the minimum wage. It’s a way for liberals to show how much they care for the low-skilled. So long as they get their pat on the head they don’t concern themselves with the actual results.
CW:
“It was never necessary to bus children around in order to meet the legal requirement of de-segregation.”
And, given a reading of the facts and an even a moderate analysis if the standardized test scores based on race. the outcome was always in certain: failure. Busing did nothing to solve any educational problems, but id did force many people to move away and avoid such a catastrophe.
This was never about education. It was for political gifts for certain minority groups. Head Start is the same phony category.
This was a political stunt and no more. The left are happy to use children or old folk or others as political paws. They are flush with lies to stress their points and they care not which lies are which if some money can be transferred away from the upper middle class and rich.
This is parasitism.

It would seem to me, just as one more observer and to be able to make the case to my series’ target audiences, to directly address the holding in Brown, namely Justice Earl Warren’s saying for the majority, “separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.”
Well the Left certainly knows how to create parasites out of thin air!
Following your line of thinking, CW, maybe it’s best to refer to the progressives/liberals, if not the party of “unintended consequences”, the party of “nonintended consequences”.
How about the party of ‘who-gives-a-damn-where’s-my-award’?
I admire your efforts drpete to lay out the facts. I dare say that we who read your blog agree with the arguments you lay out. However, I highly doubt that your efforts are changing the minds and opinions of the everyday Liberal. The only Libs who read opposition blogs are hell bent on one thing and we all know what that is. They have their replies, talking points and agenda and they don’t deviate from them…..
Your points, flyoverhere, are both appreciated and, I think, accurate. My intention here in this series is to write copy for conservatives/libertarians to deliver to a group of folks in line for government handouts, to a group of unmarried women, to a predominantly-black, say, basketball camp or high school.
“separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.”
S specious finding with no basis for proof.
“[S]eparate educational facilities are inherently unequal” was and is an obvious truism. Michael Jordan and Earvin Johnson were obviously “unequal” because each was unique. The relevant question, however, is, “Who was better?”
“I must assume, ryckki, that you had a lungfull of air combined with a rampant addiction to spewing. You speak of rants?? Read your own stuff. You cannot defend your own points unless you resort to semantics and twisting of meanings. Warren was but a criminal and a leftist stooge and you seem to offer him some respect he never earned.
Your handling of the word ‘equality’ is pedestrian at best. I suspect you are a liberal apologist at heart. Bye
You do nothing, ryckki, but twist semantics, but then spew, rather than engage and argue. Discussion, thus, never occurs. Too bad. Bye.
