The weenies have won the war. The differences between on the one hand those who ride in the societal wagon, along with those who direct where and how the wagon goes, and on the other hand those who pull the wagon loaded with those moochers and gimmees, that while being directed by force as necessary by progressive/liberal/nonthinking government careerists; those differences are irreconcilable.
The gimmees and moochers believe they’re dependent on the progressive/liberal/nonthinking government careerists, and are fine and happy with that. So are the progressive/liberal/nonthinking government careerists happy with that. Below in a professor’s formula “A” is a progressive/liberal, “B” is a progressive/liberal/nonthinking government careerist, “C” is a wagon puller, and “X” is a gimmee/moocher/wagon-rider.
Back in the 1860s Yale University Professor William Graham Sumner wrote in an essay and spoke around the country: “As soon as A observes something which seems to him wrong, from which X is suffering, A talks it over with B, and A and B then propose to get a law passed to remedy the evil and help X. Their law always proposes to determine what C shall do for X, or, in better case, what A, B, and C shall do for X… What I want to do is to look up C. I want to show you what manner of man he is. I call him the Forgotten Man. perhaps the appellation is not strictly correct. He is the man who never is thought of…. I call him the forgotten man… He works, he votes, generally he prays—but he always pays…”
Human nature in the real world, however, displays the fatal flaw in the happy relationship between the gimmee/moocher/wagon-riders (aka “X”) and the progressive/liberal/nonthinking government careerists (aka “B”). “X” in reality is dependent along with “B” on “C”. When Lucy pulls the football away at the last second as Linus swings his leg to placekick it for the umpteenth time, it finally dawns on Linus to quit and walk away. Those who in reality made Detroit “Motown” and “Motor City”, like Linus, finally quit and walked away. All that’s left there are a bunch of Xs helplessly sitting in the wagon waiting and another bunch of Bs telling a void what to do.
It is to be noted about now that progressives/liberals (aka “A”), they who enable all of the above implosion and destruction, are but bystanders thereafter. When, not just Detroit and Chicago, not just Newark and New Orleans, not just Illinois and California, not just New Jersey and the southeast half of New York, et al, implode, but when America as a whole becomes but a hole, it will be progressives/liberals (aka “A”) who insist that we rebuild the same society and nation which just imploded . . . but better this time. Progressives/liberals, you see, have an almost-always incurable mental disorder. It’s not just that progressives/liberals (aka “A”) can’t read. It’s not even that progressives/liberals can’t think. It’s that progressives/liberals believe they’re thinking when in reality they’re but feeling. Emotion in place of rationality and logic.
Back in 2000 the great Professor-Dr. Walter E. Williams wrote a column entitled “It’s Time To Part Company”. It was about the irreconcilable difference above described. And he noted that couples divorce, and that there are precedents for countries splitting as well. He noted Norway from Sweden and Panama from Columbia.
I cannot imagine, however, how to geographically split the Americans who love liberty, strictly-limited-Constitutional government, self-reliance, and free-will charity (aka “C”) from the Americans who love some “social compact” in place of liberty, unlimited government intrusion and control of individuals, and the rule of administrative-bureaucratic specialists in place of the rule of law (aka “A”). If there is any geographic pattern which correlates with the split, it is rural versus urban, and even that correlation is far from perfect.
I’ve read it argued over on my Facebook “Liberty, the sine qua non” community that the United States is too large in population by a factor of four at least. I sincerely invite any and all suggestions and recommendations on the best possible means of those with serious, indeed critical, irreconcilable differences parting company.
